The group has held nearly 300 public facing events and meetings with speakers, activities, and special topics. Maker Faire Burlington is our signature annual event. The guild does charitable projects around our community throughout the year. We work to network people together, find opportunities, and share skills around all kinds of technical, artistic, recreational, and entrepreneural making. Attendance at the monthly meetings (every 2nd Thursday of the month) is free and open to everyone. About Alamance Makers Guild Interest Groups: Interest group meetings are for dues-paying members of Alamance Makers Guild and their guests. Dues are $36/year and cover operating expenses and go towards funding Maker Faire Burlington (the largest Maker Faire in NC). Anyone can attend one or two interest group meetings as a guest in order to learn more about the group, the culture and activities, and determine if its a good fit for you. The first few meetings of the Woodworking interest group are open to everyone! Interest groups meet at least once per month on a regular schedule. Meeting styles vary from group to group but focus on the overall culture of Alamance Makers Guild. Every person, idea, project, and skill level is valued and appreciated. We value families and people of all ages in our groups… from older mentors who can share a wealth of knowledge and experience to younger members who can learn and grow. We welcome people from all walks of life. About the Woodworking, CNC, and Laser Interest Group: We talk about all types of woodworking including CNC (Computer Numerical Control) routing and laser cutting and engraving. There will be a Show-N-Tell of member projects. You can share knowledge and help others learn new skills and solve problems, or ask questions yourself. Sometimes there will be guest speakers. Other times we'll have demonstrations of tools and equipment. There will be opportunities to work on community projects and help other individuals and organizations (on a voluntary basis of course, participation in projects is up to you), including representing the group at Maker Faire Burlington! Please RSVP to let us know you plan to attend. You can reserve a free ticket via our Eventbrite page, or RSVP via our AMG Facebook Page or the Burlington Makers Meetup Group on Please SHARE this event with anyone who may be interested in this topic.

What we're about

This is a group for makers, artists, programmers, tinkerers, boffins, crafters, educators, and anyone who likes the kinds of projects and articles in "Make Magazine." It is a group for people who think “How can I make that?” instead of “where can I buy that.” Its a group for those who want to share their talents, knowledge, skills, and ideas with each other and with the world. My name is Ben Harris and I'm a maker. I own my own small business (cottage industry) here in Burlington NC making science kits. I've recently become involved with Maker Faire (both in CA and here in NC!). I also own a CNC router, many bench power tools, a ton of hand tools, and lots of electronics equipment. I'm interested in exploring the idea of opening a “maker space” somewhere in Alamance county and would like to find out if there are other like minded people who might want to join such a space OR who might want to help out with creating such a space for others. If you like to make things with your own two hands (either technical OR artistic or both!), and you like to share that with the world, and you are somewhere in/near Burlington-Graham/Alamance County then please join my new group.
