Its time for our year-end holiday tradition...
Pot Luck Dinner + Making Something for the Holidays! (this year Puppets or Learn-to-Solder)
This event is family friendly and you are encouraged to bring out the whole family (all ages) to join us. New members are also VERY welcome! We also hope for all the members of the Teen Chapter of the Alamance Makers Guild and their families to join us!
NOTE: This meeting will be on the 3RD Thursday in December NOT the 2nd as usual. This is so that the maximum number of folks (especially our Puppet Master John Otero and his family) can be there.
For the pot-luck dinner. All are invited to bring an item or two for dinner (home-made or store bought, main courses, side items, appetizers, deserts, and non-alcoholic drinks are all welcome as are paper plates, cups, etc) We won't know the exact number of people eating until we get all the RSVP's but will send out an e-mail and a notice a week prior to the event with an estimate on attendance. Please use the questions in the meetup.com meeting notice OR the comments section on our Facebook meeting page to indicate your plans for dinner.
For the Puppet Making: John Otero and Ben Harris will be bringing the base materials for puppet making to this event. That will include foam, felt, glue, and some every-day materials. The cost to make a puppet will depend upon the number of folks who wish to make one and may range from $10 to $25 per person. If you want to customize your puppet with clothes, glasses, jewelry, items to hold in its hands, or other special stuff (LED's or robotics for example) that is up to you to supply. John will also share some of his templates. If you are able please bring cardboard, scissors, xacto knives, sharpie markers, pins, coat hangers, etc. We'll post the video from the last meeting where John instructed us on Puppet Making techniques soon, and John and others will be on hand to help you out with making your puppet. We'll have more details about the Puppet Making (and costs) once everyone has RSVP'ed to the event. Please use the questions in the meetup.com meeting notice OR the comments section on our Facebook meeting page to indicate your plans for puppet making.
In addition to puppet making, we'll also have a couple of learn-to-solder stations set up for anyone who might want to solder together an LED or other electronics kit for Christmas. Its up to you to supply your own Kit and Batteries. You can buy kits at Radio Shack, or online from stores such as Amazon.com, Makershed, Jameco Electronics, and more. We'll have soldering irons set up in a station and will help you out if you are new to soldering. (All children should be supervised by a parent or responsible adult for soldering). We did just soldering last year and it went over very well with lots of ornament kits made! Please use the questions in the meetup.com meeting notice OR the comments section on our Facebook meeting page to indicate your plans for soldering a kit (or if you can volunteer to help teach others to solder).
As always, feel free to bring items that you have made or are making for Show-N-Tell! Photos and Video are also ok!
Thanks to everyone who is involved with the Alamance Makers Guild! We hope to see as many of you and your families there as possible! Please RSVP (yes/no/maybe) and answer all questions so we can best plan for this event.
