Its time for the June Open Meeting of the Alamance Makers Guild! Come out to STEAM Junction in Downtown Burlington for our free, family-friendly, and fun monthly meeting!

Our special speaker for June is Heather Pendrak of Pendragon 3D Arts in Greensboro NC. Heather specializes in digital fabrication technologies including 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, and 3D Modeling. Heather will be performing demonstrations of various technologies for 3D scanning including a live demonstration using an Artec Eva 3D light scanner to capture high-resolution 3D images within a few seconds. As part of the demonstration we're going to scan the "Mr. Ben" puppet so we can make our own 3D prints!. Heather will also demonstrate 3D modeling using Geomagic Sculpt and show the process used to prepare a model for 3D printing. There will also be a hands-on session working with Sculptris, a free 3D modeling software. Learn about the most recent advances in 3D technologies and find out how they will effect the future of 3D printing for hobby, educational, and professional purposes.

Although we do have access to some computer equipment at STEAM Junction we highly encourage anyone who wants to play with the 3D modeling software to bring their own laptops. (WiFi will be provided). The software is free and/or free and cloud-based. Also on the agenda for June:

  • Show-N-Tell: What are YOU working on? Bring YOUR projects and News for Show-N-Tell. Can be projects that are finished, new ideas, or anything in between. Projects don't need to be related to the topic of tonight's meeting! Ask questions, get help, show off. All ideas are equal and important! As always we can show photos or video for projects that aren't practical to bring in. (let us know as soon as you arrive if you need to use the projector or internet so we can get you set up)

  • Membership Drive for the Alamance Makers Guild. Join the Guild at our meetings or online! Your $3/month helps fund the expenses of the guild, goes towards the expenses of Maker Faire Burlington, and keeps our meetings free and open to the public (to help inspire makers of all kinds no matter what their own situation or budget)

  • Maker Updates

  • Guild News
  • STEAM Junction Updates
  • Upcoming meetings and events

As always Alamance Makers Guild Open Meetings are free and open to everyone (members and non-members). We are fun and family friendly. Teens and accompanied older children are always welcome. Bring a friend!

Please share this event with others! We grow by word of mouth.

While you are in downtown Burlington please support local businesses! Have dinner, grab a coffee, check out one of the local stores, make use of our Library. Get in the Mix and support small and local businesses!

Hope to see as many of you as possible this June!
