Building Social Applications with the Linked Data Platform
Sandro Hawke (W3C/MIT), Andrei Sambra (MIT), Joe Presbrey (MIT)

The Linked Data Platform (LDP) is an emerging set of standards allowing web servers to provide efficient, shared, generic (RDF) application data storage. By using ordinary HTTP operations with LDP features, applications can use the web as their backend database. A basic set of LDP features are now being standardized at W3C, while additional features are being investigated in research. In this talk, we'll hear from one of the teams doing that research. Sandro will present an overview of the architecture, then Andrei and Joe will
demonstrate and discuss applications they've built on it.

About the speakers
Sandro has been a member of W3C's Semantic Web staff since the early days and helped standardize RDF, OWL, RIF, SPARQL, and other related technologies. He originally joined as a software developer and is thrilled to be helping build systems again.

Andrei has recently obtained his PhD on the topic of decentralized identity and authentication, while paying special attention to the privacy aspects involved. He is also one of the the authors of WebID, a work-in-progress draft spec at W3C, introducing a novel Web identification and discovery system based on Linked Data principles.

Joe has worked on several free and open source software projects, including, a Linked Data store; lighttpd, a web server; various Apache2 authentication modules; and Tabulator, the RDF browser.
