Comprehensive Beginner's 1 (Ladson)

*Instructor: Erin (Gian Paolo, a native Italian, will join us for most classes)

*This class is good for: Absolute beginners; people who studied Italian a long time ago and need a refresher. It’s especially good for students who learn best by learning rules first, and then applying them. For students who learn better by speaking and not by traditional language study, check out the Divertente 1 course instead. NOTE: This is a great foundation for people who want to go on and study Italian. If what you're looking for is a course focusing only on the Italian you'll need to survive on your next trip to Italy, check out the Essential Travel Italian course instead. No prerequisite required, but Pronunciation & Intro to the Italian language is a good class to take beforehand.

*Description of class: This is an all-round course to introduce you to Italian, and we will take it slowly, covering one chapter over two weeks so that you can master the material at this early stage. We will practice what we learn with basic conversation every class, and strengthen skills with drills and exercises in the book. By the end you will know some basic conversational Italian and will have a strong foundation to continue on in the language.

*Homework: You will be expected to memorize the vocabulary in each chapter and to complete the exercises in the book (see below) that are assigned.

*Price: $70 for 10 weeks ($60 for cardholders), due at the first class you attend by cash or check (note that checks will not be cashed until after the 2nd class, after you’ve decided that you want to continue).

*Materials needed before class starts: We will use the textbook “Italian Now!” 2nd edition by Marcel Danesi; please purchase before the class begins (you can find it on Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/1438000065 for about $15 and at some book stores locally). This will be the same textbook used in Comprehensive Beginner’s 2 and Comprehensive Intermediate, should you continue on in Italian. You will also receive additional handouts most weeks.
