Mingo Point Kiawah

Lets paddle from Mingo Point Kiawah Island out toward the ocean and relax on the beach for a bit. Total round trip is about 4-5 miles.

The Plan:

High tide @ 10:56AM

- 10:30 Arrive at Mingo Point boat ramp at for a 11:00 launch.

- 11:00 Paddle down the Kiawah River towards Captain Sams Inlet, approximately 2 miles.

- 12:00 Have lunch, beach comb or just relax on the beach for an hour. More advanced paddlers will head out to the ocean for some surfing. Helmet, spray skirt and ocean experience required for this portion.

- 1:00 Head back to Mingo Point by 2:00-2:30.

Kayaks of at least 14' in length are required for the trip to maintain pace of the group.  Also be sure to have snacks, food and ample water to drink.

This is a Meetup paddle - all individuals are responsible for their own safety and paddling at their own risk.  Lifejackets required to be worn properly fitted and zipped up.  Free to paddle with your own sea kayak; A limited amount of sea kayaks are available for rental for $55.

You must call the shop at[masked] if you wish to reserve a rental kayak or sign up online.

Overcast slightly nippy day but a good paddle with the tide down to Captain Sam's for a little fun in the surf. Going back was slow and patient with the ebb still going and a bit of wind against us. The stalwart threesome persevered and had a good time with adequate expenditure of energy especially on the way back. For future launches from Mingo Point, which is private property, be advised that prior permission of the property/manager owner and a $5 payment per boat (I think) is required.
