We will live read and discuss Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The poem is perplexing and haunting: a sea-faring tale, a horror story, a crime story, a life story, perhaps a treatise on the nature of good and evil. The Rime is widely considered Coleridge’s greatest masterpiece (even by Coleridge himself) and a work marking a shift towards modern style of poetry in literature. Exactly what makes this poem singular, we can try to decide when we read it together.

You can use the early edition of 1798 or the one of 1817 (this one includes Coleridge’s gloss on his own text). Here is a link to the 1798 edition:
