What we’re about

Meeting to discuss our own poetry. Working out chinks in the armor, making improvements, listening for sounds, searching for themes and generally becoming more self-aware as a writer, as well as learning to become better self-critics. And of course a good place to chat with other poets and find community, and lay it on thick with pet peeves regarding the state of poetry. We would also go to occasional readings and maybe if everyone is up to it to an Open Mic as well.

We will begin by meeting once a month with a possibility to meet more frequently as time goes on.

I used to run the Chicago Poetry Meetup Group a few years ago and it ran quite well for a couple of years; but then I had to stop to take time away from work-shopping to real hone my writing. Now I am back to share what I have learned during said time away and raring to learn so much more. It was a great group and part of the reason I closed it is that several of the core members left town at about the same time I was considering taking that sabbatical. Such is life.
