6:15 PM - KICK OFF
Welcome to the Christchurch Game Developers Meetup, with news from around New Zealand!
6:30 PM - How to Make Games and Influence Risk Factors + Q&A
Trying to sell your game right now is the most difficult it's ever been, but there are early choices that you can make to help bring down the risk that your game will be lost in the sea of recent releases. Navi will start by trudging through the hard (to hear) stuff around discoverability and publisher trends, and then will provide some actionable suggestions that will help to increase your game’s chances of being found by its beloved audience. This is a talk for not only new Indie teams, but anyone who is working (currently or in the future) on a game they hopefully will be releasing into the wild.
Navi Brouwer has always been keen to help people. Working with the NZ Center of Digital Excellence (CODE) has supported Navi in her role as Regional Content Manager to help Indie Development teams understand what they’re getting into when they decide that they want to branch out to create their own studio and ship their own games. She’s had the privilege of learning such skills about the industry through her time at PikPok, Dinosaur Polo Club, Wētā Digital, volunteering her time with the NZ Games Festival, and from the hundreds of developers she’s surrounded with who have shared their stories and experiences. When she's not thinking about games, Navi is trying to communicate with her dog with varying amounts of success.
CODE NZ is currently open to Expressions of Interest (EoI) for their Travel Grants program - EoIs are due by 5PM on Monday 29th April 2024. Keep your eyes peeled for EoIs for their 2024 National Funding Round: https://www.nz-code.nz/funding
