November Social: Monsters in My Mouth with Julie Byle
Have you ever wondered what it is like to carry your babies in your mouth? Probably not. Strange as it sounds, mouthbrooding is a strategy that some fish species use to keep their young safe until they are ready to live on their own. Join us on Thursday, November 15th for a presentation about mouthbrooding cichlids with fish biologist Julie Byle. Julie is a National Science Foundation Biologist and will soon be traveling to Africa to film a segment on mouthbrooding fish with the BBC for their new series, Seven Worlds. Julie is also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to citizen science and how you can get involved in science and ocean conservation, even in Boulder! About the Speaker: Julie was born and raised on the Gulf of Mexico just a short paddle from the Everglades. Her time spent working in the saltwater ecosystems was complemented by spending summers in the freshwater streams of the Rocky Mountains. Julie is dedicated to global sustainability research and aquatic conservation biology, and doesn’t discriminate when it comes to making friends with fish from around the world.
