Details of the Meetup
Meetup members with memberships = take $5 off (cost $7) (find out more at the meetup
if you want to get a $25 membership- then you will not pay a venue fee at this meetup through October.
sign up now at $7 and pay the $25 there- and get Hippocrates Guide to dehydration- a laminated folder with recipes and good instructions how to use a dehydrator- and also some Kaia treats.
We are welcoming Carmella and Don, the traveling couple from Canada,
back to talk about their health journey and share helpful tips on how to
successfully transition to and maintain the raw food lifestyle.
Carmella will also be demoing one recipe from her newly released book, Delightfully Raw.
They will make either a Curried Corn Chowder or a Spinach Almond Soup.
They are both excellent; hearty, comforting and super tasty. Carmella
and Don have been eating mostly raw foods since 2001.
Carmella Soleil is the author of the popular Sunny Raw Kitchen blog,
winner in the website and media categories at the ‘Best of Raw 2008’
Awards. Together with her life partner Don, she is the co-founder of Raw
Freedom Community forum, a resourceful interactive website. She has
published 3 raw recipe books, The Best of The Sunny Raw Kitchen, The
Best of Raw Freedom Community and Delightfully Raw, her third and most
comprehensive work. These days, Carmella, Don and their furry friends,
Kylo and DaPuss, are nomads, traveling across North America and sharing
their passion for health living, raw foods and personal growth along
Raw Daddy will also be there offering his famous cones at $5 a cone-
These are all raw cones made out of flax seed and they are filled with
his savory and sweet creations. Here's a taste of what he will be offering.
A word about the offering. Many of you are aware that we need to
charge a venue fee for our downtown Oakland venue where Laurie has
hosted so many of our successful events. We will be charging $5 per
person- which is waived for those who have become members (anyone with a
membership - pay $7). ($25 membership waives all venue fees through
October and we have thank you gifts of Kaia pumpkin seeds, and a great
dehydration instructional booklet from the Hippocrates Institute). We
have at least 2 events planned already per month through June and often
we have more- so it is a good deal).
We're asking for $12 as a base to attend this event as Carmella and
Don are asking that we donate something so they can continue their
journey. Since $5 goes to the venue- it's $7 for them. Anything you can
give above this amount would be greatly appreciated by them- if you can
give $17 or more- they will be very happy. Remember they will be doing
a demo and buying food for us to sample so please give what you can.
They have lowered what they usually ask to make this experience
affordable for us.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. to sample Raw Daddy's cones
Carmella and Don will talk and do their demo from 7-8:30 p.m.
If anyone can volunteer to help set up and clean up and attend the event for free, please let me know
The venue is quite large- so as many who want to come may come.
Here are further instructions about finding the space. It's the
entrance that has the mosaic tiles around it. Go directly up the
stairs and turn into the room on the left right at the top of the stairs
(we have an elevator available from a different entrance on 22nd St.
if anybody will need assistance getting up the stairs). We're just a
block from BART....take the 17th St. Station but get off at the
20th/Broadway exit from the station. That puts you right near the
Paramount Theater and we're a block and a half up from there
I hope to meet the new people who've recently joined up
