Has anyone ever asked you, "You're not from around here around, are you?" Love the amazing views and temperate climate of Santa Barbara (and surrounds) but sometimes miss the edge and diversity of the city life (even if you never lived there) ? Do you find yourself wishing more restaurants were open after 9pm or people would drive just a few miles faster? Members of this group do all sorts of things members suggest: gather for friendly and lively conversation (about small city life, politics, books, whatever!), dining out, thrift store crawls, improv, attending cultural events, hosting potlucks, dancing and exploring the area. [members specifically asked to not do hiking or wine tasting since many of the other meet ups have those activities.]

I designed this MeeUp with some transplants (and almost native Santa Barbarians) to connect with other interesting, down-to-earth people who enjoy a good drink and conversation as much as they do attending an Arts & Lecture event or dancing the night away.  We are just sharing the quirky, random things to do in the area (that does not include being too whiny about the area because obviously we're all still here so there must be something we like!)  This group is open to people new to the area or just wanting something new. As one of our inspirations  NYC said at an event: The great thing about being edgy is you don't have to be cool.

This group is currently capped at 50 people-at first that was due to cost but it remains that way because our Meetup is one where people actually show up. We are all part of Meetups that have 100s of members and only a few people show up to any given event(hey I am part of some ). Those can  be fun (really!) But members of this MeetUp  join because we want to hang out with people, contribute ideas and look forward to doing so. Members have to fill out a complete profile with photo and come to an event at least once in two months (ish) or suggest an event to stay members. Also, when you RSVP for an event we look for you. Emergencies come up, but if you know you aren't coming please change your RSVP at least 6 hours in advance so we aren't looking for you. Three no-shows and I'll need to bump you out of the group until your schedule allows you to participate.

I cull the membership list periodically. That makes room for others on the wait list, particularly those who show up to HH. If you as a member can't join us for one of our many activities just once in 60 days, no hard feelings you'll be bumped because  there are others who would love to participate (wait list is about 75 people).

If  you are on the wait list keep , just hang tight or one to the FFHH.  In either case you can always join the FFHH.

The First Friday Happy Hour is open to Edge of SB members, wait listed people and anyone else who comes and pay the requisite $1 ($ goes to meet up organizer fees, snacks, name tags etc.)  and fill out the name tag. Fair warning that there are name tags. In my experience, to create community it helps to actually be in community or at least know something about a person besides their name or job (we are more than our work). We average 10 attendees per HH so you're bound to meet some edgy folks.

See you on the Edge!
