Hello and Welcome to Farnborough and Farnham Friends

This group is for people who don’t want to sit behind a computer screen or phone screen having a virtual life, but those people who want to get out and about, enjoy the beauty of the countryside, meet new people and experience friendship, fun and the joy of doing things with like-minded people.

We are an active, friendly and very popular group and one of the biggest in the area. It is free to join and provides a good opportunity to meet other local people to socialize and make new friends. People of all ages are welcome. We are a very friendly group of people, just take a look at our Group Reviews on the left hand side of the page. Our members come from all surrounding areas, including Aldershot, Bagshot, Camberley, Farnham, Fleet, Guildford, Sandhurst, Wokingham, Yateley and beyond. Events take place throughout the Hampshire and Surrey area (and sometimes further afield) and there is a wide choice of things to do.

The aim of this group is to have fun whilst getting to know new, interesting, and friendly people, in different settings. We arrange restaurant visits, walks, visits to places of interest, cinema, live music nights, theatre, boat trips, pool competitions, dart nights, ten pin bowling, etc. ... Our events are very popular and get booked up quickly, so if you see something you would like to do, please RSVP as soon as possible.

You may or may not be aware, that the Meetup Organization charges a fee for the group's website. Unlike many other groups, we do not have an annual membership fee. The fee charged for the site and other expenses involved in running the group ( buying books, newspapers and magazine to check out events, updating the site, dealing with lots of queries and questions etc) are paid for by Liz (Organiser).

Each event takes time to organise and manage, therefore we charge an average of £2.00 each meetup event (which goes directly to the Event Host as a thank you for their time and effort). We hope you will agree that around £2 is a very reasonable charge for all the hard work that goes on in the background to make this group a success and continue to grow, and be happy to pass this amount to the Event Host when attending an event.

When accepting lifts from other members of the group, please bear in mind that not everyone may yet be known to Liz.

If you have an idea for an event and would like to host it, please let Liz know. Anyone is welcome to host an event.

Members of this group treat each other with the utmost respect and courtesy. Unkind or inconsiderate behaviour won't be tolerated. Please always address the organisers and other members, whether in writing or person, in a polite manner. Aggressive or confrontational behaviour is simply unacceptable and will be dealt with swiftly. The organisers reserves the right to remove any comments that go against our group philosophy. We are volunteers, who are running this group to the best of our ability. People who are overly demanding or just plain rude will be removed from this group.

Please be responsible for yourself. Before you send us an email, ask yourself this: (a) did I actually read the Meetup event description, and (b) could I look this up on the internet myself?

Please note we only need to know the Yes RSVP's. It is not necessary to RSVP No if there is a meetup you do not wish to attend. The only time you need to RSVP No is if you have already said yes to an event and then find you cannot attend. In that case, we welcome being informed as soon as possible to enable another member of the group to take your place.

Like a lot of other groups, we have a No Show rule. If you RSVP Yes to an event, and do not turn up or let the Event Host know you cannot attend, unless there are extenuating circumstances which are communicated to the Event Host, after the second time this happens we will terminate your membership of the group. Also, the organisers have the right to cancel any members who do not fit with the group. Event Hosts have the right to ask a member to leave the event, if they are obviously affecting the enjoyment of other members.

Most of our walks welcome dogs too and all we ask is that they are friendly and well behaved. Event Host has the right to ask the member to leave if they feel their dog(s) doesn't fit this criteria.

That's the rules done with - all you need to do now is upload a current photo of yourself (this is mandatory, helps Event Hosts to look out for you and helps everyone remember your name) and attend an event of your choice. (We reserve the right to cancel your membership if no photo or an unsuitable photo is uploaded).

Please don't worry about coming along on your own - we've all done it.

A Walk with Pub Stops

Yateley School

A bit of a different idea ...... we are going to combine an evening walk with pub stops. You don’t have to drink, you can have a coffee or soft drinks. Please meet me at 7.30 pm and we will walk to our first pub stop. We will then walk on to our 2nd pub stop and then again to our 3rd. The total distance is around 2 miles, so is not arduous and it will be a social evening with a bit of exercise thrown in :-) Please bring a torch with you. Free parking. Please join me for this fun evening with a difference. Meetup sub of £2 applies.

Walk - Finchampstead to California (approx 6 miles) Circular

Walk Speed - Leisurely Distance - Around 6 miles Difficulty - Easy. no steep climbs This is a pleasant walk through Finchampstead and over to California Country Park, where we will stop for a drink and/or snack. The cafe there should be open, but you may want to bring something with you, just in case. We will have a break on the picnic benches there, before resuming the walk crossing more fields and back to Finchampstead church. Drinks at the Queen's Oak pub in Finchampstead afterwards, for those who would like to. Lots of free parking. Meetup sub of £2 applies please.

Greek Night at The Fox

Belly Dancing, Smashing Plates, band and a set menu. Meet at 7.00 as we need to be seated early, and we can chat before the evening gets going at 7.30 The set menu is £28.00 and we will be asking for full payment for the food - first to pay gets a place - the table is booked for 10. All you will need to pay on the night is the tip and your drinks. The meal is a set price of £28 and consists of a 4 course meze, vegetarian option available. We cannot choose from the menu on their speciality night. Bank details will be added shortly and will be open to everyone at the same time. First to respond will get a seat. Please add your name to the Waiting List so everyone gets a fair chance

Walk - East Worldham and The Hangers Way - 7 miles (Circular)

This is a very attractive walk, starting and finishing in the old hilltop village of East Worldham, south-east of Alton and not far from Selborne. (The photo above was taken by me when I walked the route). During the 7 miles, we take in part of the South Downs National Park. Later on, the route of the walk takes in St Leonard's Church, Hartley Mauditt, which having lost its village stands isolated beside the village pond. Please join me in The Three Horseshoes Pub after the walk for drinks and/or food. So that we don't hog the whole of the pub's car park, please car-share where possible. Thanks.
