What we're about
Beginning and experienced singers alike will find a place to spread their vocal wings in The Freedom Choir. Liberate your voice and revel in the age-old tradition of singing together in a beautiful environment. Led by Elizabeth Melvin, The Freedom Choir sings a soulful and uplifting repertoire from around the corner and around the globe. Using the time-honored method of call and response to learn new songs, you will be thrilled at how quickly you will be singing with others in 4-part harmonies.
-No Audition, No Experience Required!
-Learn songs in the oral tradition, line by line in call and response.
-Sheet music and lyrics occasionally provided, but you need not read music.
-Explore vocal music and harmonies from South Africa, Irish blessings, Taize chant,
African-American Gospel, Appalachian folk, Americana, new singer-songwriters and much more!
-Relaxing warm-up at the beginning of every night gets you ready to sing.
-Get your rhythm on with occasional body percussion and dance moves to accompany songs.
-A fun, convivial atmosphere! We laugh a lot!
-We sing in a church, but are not affiliated with any religion, creed or political belief.
-The 12-week Fall Session starts Thursday, Sept. 17. Cost is $120 for the session, payable in full the first night or by installments through arrangement with the director, Elizabeth Melvin.
