What we're about

It is time to address the real problem for and with many black men and women today.

The real problem is that our soul is wounded as a result of our growing up in a dysfunctional environment. The consequence of this is affecting our relationship with each other. This is the real reason behind the black man/black woman battle. We hate each other because...we hate ourself.

Further, the consequences are affecting our money, our relationships, our health and our behaviour.

The dysfunction can include but is not limited to exposure to:

- secrets and lies - don't talk, don't think, don't feel

- physical, emotional and sexual abuse

- emotional abandonment

- left abroad and then sent for

- step parents/foster parents

- criminal activity, addiction, indoctrination

- sibling rivalry encouraged i.e. red skin, long hair -v- dark skin, short hair

and plain old out and out bad-minded and ignorant behaviour.

"All of our experiences fuse into our personality.

Everything that ever happened to us is an ingredient." Malcolm X

Research has found that suffering from persistent adverse childhood experiences increase the likelihood of presenting with autoimmune illnesses and depression in adult life. (CDS- Kaiser).

Using the structured template of 12 step programme Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional families, we meet to share our experience, strength, and hope with each other. We learn to restructure our thinking one day at a time. When we release our parents from responsibility for our actions today, we become free to make healthful decisions as actors, not reactors. We progress from hurting, to healing, to helping. We awaken to a sense of wholeness we never knew was possible. (ACA Big Book)
