What we're about

First off, this group is open to everyone irrespective of skill level. These MeetUp's aren't usually terribly formal. It's a way of saying, "Hey, I'm going to be running here today and you're welcome to join me." If you're an accomplished runner then join me! I'll try to keep up! If you're not a runner, suffering from addiction or have questions about THP and want someone to talk to, then I'm happy to walk with you. -Scott Waldrop RRCA Running Coach / New Balance Running Coach (Raleigh / Durham)

This is a social running group led by your local "THP Runs" (The Herren Project) Team Runners and Ambassadors. We are marathoners, ultra runners, trail runners, triathletes and some RRCA Certified Running Coach(s). Again, we cannot stress enough that this group is open to EVERYONE: those simply wanting to meet new people and have fun, non-athletes, accomplished athletes, those in recovery, those seeking recovery, and those seeking to making a difference. ABOUT THE HERREN PROJECT:

The Herren Project is a Non-profit foundation started by former NBA player Chris Herren. Assists individuals & families struggling w/addiction. REACHING 1 PERSON, 1 FAMILY AT A TIME. Our mission is:

* Positively impact the lives of those suffering with addiction by providing effective treatment navigation.

* Educate youth and at-risk populations on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provide techniques to handle pressure within their lives, their community or their family situation.

* Provide scholarships to programs, clinics and camps to increase self confidence, motivation and develop a firm foundation on which to build success.

THP Runs is a group that participates in road races, marathons, ultra-marathons and Spartan races to celebrate life and strive for a better tomorrow. Every dollar we raise will support The Herren Project’s areas of focus including treatment navigation, educational initiatives and mentoring programs in the hopes of saving a life and making a difference in the lives of those touched by addiction.

WHY TRAILRUNNING? 1. ? - Different Biomechanics – You’re not pounding on the same flat surface as you would be on asphalt, so your body isn’t taking nearly as much as a punishment. 2. ? - No Right Angles – getting away from the concrete jungle and spending time in nature is good for the soul and the nervous system. Peer-reviewed science backs this up. 3. ? - Brain Calisthenics – When you first get into trail running it’s easy to compare it to playing a video game. You’re going fast and you’re trying not to trip. Once you get the bug, this becomes extremely fun and gratifying as an athlete, TARGET RACE We have 5 bibs for our target race Uwaharrie Gold Rush 50k to raffle as well! As always plant-based home-made goodies and a cooler full of water and bubbly water will always be with us! You don’t need to even be interested in running the target race to come run with us.
