What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in hiking (most of our members are 50 years old and older). All skills levels are welcome. We started this group to meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Looking forward to exploring the outdoors with everybody.
Every weekend we offer hikes of varying degrees of difficulty. Hike are free for members (membership only $10) and $2 per hike for non-members. Sometimes we stop at a restaurant for supper after the hike.
"C" hikes are the easiest with minimal elevation and duration (2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours). "B" hikes are more challenging in terms of elevation & duration (2 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours). "A" hikes are the most challenging (4 to 6 1/2 hours).
Hiking boots or sturdy footwear & a backpack are strongly recommended. Bring liquids and a trail lunch. Children are welcome. It's up to the hike leader if dogs are allowed.
Please give yourself plenty of time, to find us, since we only wait an extra 10 minutes, before starting an event, to be fair to everyone. You are responsible, for your own safety and we cannot be held liable.
The leader normally goes to the "meet" rather than the "carpool" site. People are expected to "self-assemble" and leave the "carpool" site to arrive at the "Meet" site on time.
All questions concerning a particular hike can and should be addressed with the leader for that hike.

See all- 20-Mile Bike Ride - Farmington River - Farmington to CollinsvilleParking Lot for Farmington Canal Heritage Trail and Farmington River Trail, Farmington, CT
Our second ride this month for National Bike Month. Please arrive at 9:45 for a 10:00 start time.
This will be a 20-mile round-trip trek going north along the Farmington River. We will go about 10-12 mph. You can choose to do fewer than 20 by turning around when you want to, and riders who want to do more can go further, however you will not be a part of the group at that point. I will be wearing a yellow helmet, and my cell number is 203-640-4711.
Road and hybrid bikes are best for our moderate pace on this trail. Please bring water, other beverages and snacks for just a few very short breaks. Also, please bring a helmet and spare tube, and have your tires properly inflated. I'm not an expert on mechanical issues, but you can call AAA if you are a member. There is a bike shop off the trail in Simsbury.
We will follow Bike Walk Connecticut's rules for cyclists - http://www.bikewalkct.org/share-the-road.html
Driving directions: Please click on the map on your smartphone to use navigation on your maps app. GPS: 1008 New Britain Ave, Farmington.
We do ask for a contribution of $2 per hike or $10 per year to cover meetup.com fees and our annual social events, picnics, parties, etc...
With your RSVP you acknowledge that "The Hiking Group - CT & NY" is not a professional outdoor organization. The sole purpose of this group is to enjoy the outdoors with like minded adventurers. Hiking, rock climbing, biking, skiing, and snow shoeing have dangers and you take those risks upon yourself.
