Snow Weekend

Alt St. Johann, Dorf

The return of the world famous ICW Snow Weekend. Let's go for a weekend of snow fun in the Swiss Alps. This year we're going to go to Alt St. Johann, just down the road from where we were last year. We're going for the weekend of 31-Jan to 2-Feb and you are all invited. Alt St. Johann is a typical Swiss mountain resort. We can do all sorts of snow based activities there. They have 50km of ski slopes, 15km of langlauf loipes, 39km of winter wanderwegs and 5km of snow shoe trails. We're going to do it in quite a relaxed way, feel free to come along for as much of the weekend as you want and do whatever you want. Here's how it's going to work. Sue and I have booked ourselves in to the Hotel Restaurant Rössli in Alt St. Johann. We'll be there from Friday 8pm until Sunday. There are three fixed points you need to know about for the rest of the weekend. On Saturday morning we'll all meet at 10:00 outside the Hotel Rössli. Then we'll go to the rental shop for people to rent skis, snowshoes or other equipment. Then people will be free to split up and do whatever activities they want. I will be going snow shoeing, for example, so anyone can join me for that, I expect other groups of people will go skiing or maybe langlaufing. On Saturday evening I will book a table at the restaurant in the Hotel Rössli for 19:00 for anyone who wants to join us. On Sunday morning we will meet again at 10:00 outside the Hotel before again heading out for our activities. What you need to do, if you want to join us. 1 - Decide when you're coming, just for a day or for the whole weekend, or whatever you want. 2 - Accept the meetup invite and send me a message telling me when you're coming, I will book a table for all of us at the Hotel Rössli for everyone for Saturday night, so please let me know if you do NOT want to join us for that. 3 - Book your hotel. Obviously the Hotel Rössli is the most convenient, but booking.com or another hotel website will show you what's available nearby. There are plenty of rooms available at the Rössli as I write this, but I wouldn't hang about. 4 - Decide on your travel arrangements. The SBB is obviously a good choice. the nearest bus stop is Alt St. Johann Dorf. If you have a car and would like to offer a lift to anyone, I'm sure that would be welcome. That's it! One thing to remember, we are not teachers or guides. This trip will be a group of friends going away for the weekend, so we and the club assume no responsibility for you. That said, Swiss mountain resorts are well organised, with good signs and well cleared trails. If you haven't been on this sort of weekend before, feel free to talk to me or Sue about it.
