What we're about

Junction Writers is a great and diverse group with a healthy mix of male, female, and ethnic origin, and including many excellent current and would-be writers. Our primary event is co-hosting a session with the Annette Street Writer's Group, meeting Monday every 2 weeks at the Annette Street Library-- https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/detail.jsp?Entt=RDMEVT25439&R=EVT25439

The heart of these meetings is a lively and well attended writer's group full of amazing and mindful people. They are excellent writers and the feedback and inspiration they provide is priceless. A good writer's group is essential for every writer, and this is a great group. Typically, 3 writers present their stories at each meeting. Each story should not exceed 2,500 words (but of course can be much less), and should be submitted on-line beforehand so others can read in advance. The stories are read at the meeting, typically not by the author, but the author is free to read herself if she wishes. The facilitator then manages a round-table critique session, and members are also encouraged to bring hard copies of the stories and write in comments.

Part of the excitement is that the stories are always totally different in style and genre, and the feedback is usually spirited, but supportive. All of this is accomplished in 2 hours. Junction Writers also organises Prattling with Writers, small informal gatherings at Baka Cafe in Bloor West Village. These get-togethers aim to entice you into another world of hope and beauty then plunge you into the cold grit of reality of being a writer and trying to get published. Without mercy. Not for the faint of heart, prepare to leave behind your sanity and embrace your madness, every second Tuesday!

We are also sponsoring a Personal Writer’s Workshop, an initiative where people are able to come together and work on pieces surrounded by fellow creatives. The premise of this gathering is to provide a space where small groups of people can work quietly on their writing, with the advantage of small discussion if they become stuck or would like a quick opinion. This is NOT a feedback session. If that is what you are looking for, go to the Annette Street meetings mentioned above.
