Arnis - also sometimes known as escrima or kali - is the Filipino Martial Arts style usually associated with stick fighting, swords, and knives. You'll see Arnis being used in a variety of pop culture fight scenes ("Arrow", the "Bourne" movies, "Spy"...)
This meetup is all about studying Presas Arnis, a blend of two major FMA systems - Modern Arnis (Remy Presas) and Kombatan (Ernesto Presas). Plus there's a few bits and pieces thrown in from a variety of sources and influences.
It's fun, safe, and easy to learn. You don't have to be super fit or have any martial arts experience at all to get started (however, we do restrict this meetup to people aged 18 and older). Wear comfortable athletic clothing and if you have mat shoes (shoes only worn for martial arts training on clean surfaces), you can bring those.
The Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup is hosted by Kindred Protective Arts (www.kindredprotects.com) and is led by Jackie Bradbury, Dayang Dalawa (2nd Degree Black) and Kevin Bradbury, Lakan Dalawa (2nd Degree Black), Presas Arnis. Full bios of instructors can be found at the KPA page under "Instructors".
This is the virtual version of the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup!
We teach Filipino Martial Arts (Presas Arnis) as well as cover material from Hock Hochheim's Force Necessary curriculum, MiraRada Escrima, and other sources as well. Our focus is on skill building and practical self defense (not stick fighting, although that's fun too!)
The virtual Meetup has a training fee of $5/session (or $20/month). Please contact the organizers for payment options. Fee includes recording of Meetup for attendees.
Special session of the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup with instructor Mark Lynn. If you've never been to a Meetup, this is a great session to attend! Please bring masks. Training will maintain social distancing guidelines.
Welcome to the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup, Kansas City's premiere FREE martial arts meetup!
We teach Filipino Martial Arts (Presas Arnis) as well as cover material from Hock Hochheim's Force Necessary curriculum, MiraRada Escrima, and other sources as well. Our focus is on skill building and practical self defense (not stick fighting, although that's fun too!).
If you own rattan arnis sticks and a training knife, please bring them. We will have a few pairs of extras for borrowing while you try us out. If you stay, we request that you buy your own set of rattan sticks (can be found online or bought directly from the organizers).
Our Sunday host facility has mats and requires mat shoes (any athletic or training shoe ONLY worn on indoor mats) or bare feet while training. Wear comfortable athletic clothes and we ask that you remove jewelry (especially rings, watches and bracelets) when you train.
We look forward to meeting you!
