Has life become too serious? Is the news getting you down? Can’t stand to dive into yet another award-winning novel exploring a devastating existential crisis in a war-torn country with too-close-to-home socio-political overtones? Or maybe you just like a good laugh?
Then this book club is for you.
We’ll read funny books, and then talk and joke about them once a month. Preferably over an assortment of delicious beverages. The books will range from comedian autobiographies you can speed through in a weekend to more literary works akin to A Confederacy of Dunces.
This doesn’t mean we won’t sometimes broach serious topics in discussion. After all, comedy is often a mechanism to explore the darker side of life. But the main purpose here is to have a fun time with fun people, read some funny books, and meet a few new faces along the way.
For our inaugural meeting, we’ll discuss Bossypants by Tina Fey, because if you haven’t read it by now, you probably have, like, three aunts who will lend it to you. Location for this meeting is TBD depending on the number of RSVP’s, but it will be somewhere in Jamaica Plain easily accessible by public transportation.
P.S. Although we don’t want to be exclusionary, this group is, in part, for making new friends, and people generally make friends with those in a similar age bracket. Therefore, it’s worth mentioning that this meet-up is geared toward those 25-ish to 40-ish years old.
P.P.S. I know these may not be technical “postscripts,” but they're afterthoughts which is kind of the same thing, right? Whatever, if it’s not, I’m just a grammar innovator. You can’t stop progress!
