The London Playwrights Project provides a place for you to share your work in a safe, supportive, friendly environment- a workshop and community for playwrights. You'll hear your work and get input from your fellow writers. All levels of experience are welcome!
How it works: We meet once a month, ideally , on the 1st Monday of the month. Costs to attend are £5 on the night. What will we do ? Ideally there will be a quorum of 5 - and from that group there will be people who have work that they want to have heard. We can have that read. There will be people who just want to get started and are looking for that initial inspiration, push to start working. I'd like to think that this group will develop skills - look at themes. For example, what is the difference between plot and story. Does your play develop organically from the characters or there is a structure for the play and the characters have to fit into that. Everyone is somewhere on the writing spectrum and usually everyone has a problem to solve. I'm hopeful we can facilitate that. Usually people find they learn almost as much from listening to other people's work and their issues as they do from their own.
Who is the host? My name is Phil Gellhorn. I've taken the group over from Nicky Silver who originally set this up. I am a developing playwright keen to learn from others and I hope that we can produce together a forum which makes paying £5 worthwhile and makes turning up for 2 hours on a Monday evening worthwhile.
