Please carpool, cycle or take transit ! If you carpool, don't forget to reimburse your driver for gas.
Activities
We will:
Meet at 7.50 am (we start at 8 am)at Earthwise Society (6400 3rd Ave Delta) Sign in and then participate in 3 key activities: 1)Harvesting winter squash from the fields (before they flood for the winter) and store the squash 2) Clean up the rhubarb beds, divide the plants, re-mulch the soil 3) We will have a small group helping to Harvest for the farm store (ie. green onions harvesting & bunching, picking beans, beets, kale swiss chard, summer squash etc). Volunteer until 11 am (with breaks and refreshments of course). Have a wander around Boundary Bay (which is only a short walk away) and then a lunch - this is weather dependent What to bring
Gardening gloves if you have them (if you don't they will be provided for you). Water lunch if you're planning to hang out after 1pm Rain jacket in case it rains Comfortable shoes or rubber boots that you don't mind getting dirty About Earthwise Society farm
Although much of Delta's land is farmed, residents have little opportunity to purchase locally grown produce or to see how our food is grown. The Earthwise Farm raises public awareness about the value of local food production and learn about the environmental benefits of sustainable farming practices.
About Boundary Bay Park
Thousands of migratory birds feed and rest at Boundary Bay. We will venture onto the dyke trail and explore the area.
