MEETING INSTRUCTIONS
Ron McLean Park (7820 Hedley Street) - at the intersection of Hedley St and Clinton St. There is a parking lot accessible from Hedley Street. We will meet at the parking lot. Note - it's an 8 min walk from Edmonds Skytrain Station

The City of Burnaby and Byrne Creek Streamkeepers will have a display. Come and learn about the ecology of Byrne Creek Ravine Park!
Working together increases community engagement, raises environmental awareness & increases capacity to improve local parks & riparian areas
GETTING THERE:
Please reduce your ecological footprint by using:
• Transit. To find out the best route click: http://www.translink.bc.ca. The park site is approximately an 8 minute walk westward from the Edmonds Skytrain station by street or following trails in the park
• Your bicycle. The park is near the BC Parkway urban trail that follows under the Expo Skytrain line. For a bicycle map: https://www.burnaby.ca/assets/multiple+locations/bike+map.pdf
• Carpool. Leave a message at the bottom of this page if you need a ride. Please chip in for gas ($6 for every hour of drive)
• Walk if you live nearby

YOUR DUTIES
• Remove invasive plant species. They push out native plants, including endangered species, and destroy habitat for fish, birds and other wildlife. They can also cause erosion and silt problems in creeks and impact aquatic creatures.
• Carry tools and supplies to the site to and from the meeting spot
• Use hand tools safely and responsibly, and return them
FLOW OF ACTIVITY
• Meet at 9.45am (please don't be late)
• Sign in on your phone or our tablet
• Walk to Site (follow arrows if you're late)
• Receive instruction and demo on how to remove invasive plants effectively
• Remove invasive plants
• Take a break (yummy refreshments time!) around 11.30am
• Volunteer until 1pm
• Sign out on your phone or our tablet

WHAT TO BRING
• Refillable water bottle
• Rain jacket in case it rains
• If it's sunny bring a hat and sunscreen
• Your own gardening gloves and pruners if you prefer them (we provide them otherwise)
• Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
• Long sleeves and long pants to protect you from thorny plants and ticks
• Sturdy, comfortable closed toe shoes/boots, or gum boots
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU:
• Training will be provided on the day (no experience necessary!)
• Gardening gloves
• Tools (e.g. pruners and loppers)
• Refreshments (often juices, fruits, veggies, energy bars and cookies)
• A small thank you gift at the end, often donated by a business
