PARTNERS FOR THIS ACTIVITY:

This is a City of White Rock and Lower Mainland Green Team activity.

Working together increases community engagement, raises environmental awareness & increases capacity to improve local parks & riparian areas

MEETING INSTRUCTIONS

Walk to the trailhead where the pin is on our map for this event.

Parking all around Peace Arch Curling Centre and Centennial Arena. The road in is at Anderson St and Vine Ave in White Rock.

DO NOT PAY FOR PARKING. Parking passes for all participants.

GETTING THERE:

Please reduce your ecological footprint by using:

• Transit. To find out the best route click: http://www.translink.bc.ca.

• Your bicycle. There is a Surrey/White Rock cycling map here: https://www.translink.ca/Getting-Around/Cycling/Cycling-Maps.aspx

• Carpool. Leave a message at the bottom of this page if you need a ride. Please chip in for gas ($6 for every hour of drive)

• Walk if you live nearby

YOUR DUTIES

• Plant native trees
• Carry tools and supplies to the site to and from the meeting spot
• Use hand tools safely and responsibly, and return them

FLOW OF ACTIVITY

• Meet at 9.45am (please don't be late)
• Sign in on your phone or our tablet
• Walk to Site (follow arrows if you're late)
• Receive instruction and demo on how to plant native trees
• Plant native species
• Take a break (yummy refreshments time!) around 11.30am
• Volunteer until 1.30pm
• Sign out on your phone or our tablet

WHAT TO BRING

• Refillable water bottle
• Rain jacket in case it rains
• If it's sunny bring a hat and sunscreen
• Your own gardening gloves and pruners if you prefer them (we provide them otherwise)
• Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
• Long sleeves and long pants to protect you from thorny plants and ticks
• Sturdy, comfortable closed toe shoes/boots, or gum boots

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU:

• Training will be provided on the day (no experience necessary!)
• Gardening gloves
• Tools (e.g. pruners and loppers)
• Refreshments (often juices, fruits, veggies, energy bars and cookies)
• A small thank you gift at the end, often donated by a business

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS?

• A survey sent to you
• A volunteer letter emailed on request
