Announcing a new Meetup for The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group!

What: Tuesday Evening Hike: Robinson Canyon (~6 Miles, ~700 Feet)

When: Tuesday, September 21,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $1.00 per person

Where: Robinson Canyon & Holt Road
28040 Robinson Canyon Rd
Carmel, CA 93923

This week's Tuesday evening outing will take us to Robinson Canyon, an often overlooked canyon road leading up from Carmel Valley towards the northern flanks of the Ventana Wilderness. Along the way we'll pass through the beautiful Santa Lucia Preserve which offers scenic towering redwood groves mixed with oak woodland and madrone canopy. Although not a trail in the conventional sense as we'll be hiking on black top pavement the entire way, the road generally sees little traffic as it is a route intended mostly for locals, some scattered ranches, and vacation cabins on private reserves.

WHAT TO BRING: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots (sorry sneakers NOT recommended for this event), layered clothing for protection against wind and cool temperatures, food/snacks for extra fuel, at least 2 liters of water, & long pants and long sleeve shirt (for poison oak protection).

NOTE: The sun will be setting at 7:06 p.m. with civil twilight ending at 7:32 p.m. This means it WILL be dark as we near the end of our hike. Please bring headlamps and/or flashlights so that you may safely illuminate the foot path ahead of you as we make our way back to the cars.

If you're coming from the Santa Cruz or Monterey area, head south on CA-1 towards Carmel. The freeway ends just past Exit 399A (Hwy. 68 to Pacific Grove), but continue on Hwy 1 south for another 4 miles until you get to Carmel Valley Road. Turn left (East) onto Carmel Valley Road and continue for 6 miles. Turn right onto Robinson Canyon Road and proceed another 1/4 mile until you reach Hold Rd.

Driving Directions to Robinson Canyon Hike

Ample curbside parking is available. We'll hit the trail promptly at 6:15 p.m.

Please be aware that we expect you to take responsibility for your safety while we are out on the trails. This means being prepared with adequate hiking gear and making sure the difficulty level of the event IS NOT beyond the limits of your health & conditioning. We understand that your "Yes" RSVP to this event means you accept this. For more information regarding safety, please refer to the Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group "About" section for more details.
