Leon Creek [12+ Miles] -- Intermediate Speed (Mountain Bike)
We will begin at the Mainland Trailhead just off of Bandera Road and then follow the Leon Creek Greenway. This ride will be on mostly dirt trails and some paved areas. We will ride for about 3 hours. The first rest stop will be in 40 minutes and second rest stop is 20 minutes after that. The time for those first two stops is fixed and any rest stops after that are random. Our speed will range from about 8 to 12 mph. I adjust the speed to try to keep the group together but our speed will probably remain at 10mph or above most of the time. The Usual Stuff: As with any park we mountain bike there are smooth parts and rocky parts and any part that makes you uncomfortable you can walk though it. Make sure you have water (3 liters), sun block, and protect your head by wearing a helmet. If you need to rest then shout out to the group to slow the speed down for a few minutes or to stop. Bring a snack if your energy runs low. I will only be there if there are people who RSVP "YES" by the RSVP deadline. Meet at: We are meeting at the Mainland Trailhead parking lot. It is next to the WalMart and behind the apartment complex on Bandera road. Look for the dark green mountain bike. I will probably be wearing black shorts and a blue shirt. See you there. Rain cancels this event. You should have a Helmet, water (2 liters or more), gloves, repair supplies for your bike, a bike in good working condition. If you signed up for an intermediate ride then you are certainly expected to know what you are doing :) and that you have the requisite skill and endurance. *** During the ride if you think you signed up for the wrong level you can always get off the dirt trail and onto the sidewalk and ride on your own. You are of course free to pursue your own aims. Our little group is trying to achieve higher levels.

What we're about

The bicycling will be on mountain bikes in several parks around San Antonio and sometimes out of town. We have beginner, intermediate, and advanced rides. You need a bicycle that is in good working condition and basic safety gear like a helmet and bicycle gloves. The road bike riding will mostly be in the greenways around San Antonio that have pavement. Most of the time I will schedule a road bike ride to replace a mountain bike ride when it rains and the dirt trails have become muddy. Our focus is mountain bike rides. Come out and join us as often as you can. Local Rides are on weekend mornings about 9:30am and during the weekdays they are usually after 6:00pm. Any out of town rides will be during the months of November to February on a weekend. I might occasionally put a book, movie, skating, museum, restaurant, kayaking, or some other topic as a meet-up event on the calendar.

All rides are for adults unless it specifically states that it is a family ride. If anyone signs up for a family ride then parents are expected to attend the family ride with their child so they can supervise and guide their child themselves on the trails. The parent has to come to take care of their own child throughout the ride on the trails. This meetup group is not affiliated with any bicycle shop.

Welcome. Come out and ride as often as you can.
