Free Public Workshop with Jenni Roditi and The Open Choir
Jenni Roditi and members of The Open Choir will be working with the public who happen to be at Wellcome Collection. Do come along so you can “happen to be there” and join us in the glorious Reading Room. 15 minutes before the session the tannoy will announce ‘ what does your voice reveal to you about yourself? Join the open choir workshop’ .. people will come, we hope out of curiosity! It’s a free event. We will work towards creating an improvisation choir, starting step-by-step with the first principles of exploratory, creative voice through Jenni’s technique of vocal tai chi. Once you sense how your voice can offer you a new view of parts of yourself through connecting body, mind and voice - you will then begin sharing that with sensation with others. The connection between improvisation and collaboration will be emphasised and we will be forming an ensemble of explorer-singers, finding out how each voice can add to the whole. The diversity of each vocal contribution will add another layer to the whole musical picture we create together in the moment. The chance for total newcomers to step safely into the creative space and find out how your voice can reveal to you parts of yourself, perhaps previously unknown. Do share this event to spread word. Thank you!

What we're about

The Open Choir is part of a project created in August 2015 called 'TIC TOC SING' we are 2 choirs. TIC - The Improvisers' Choir (which is an auditioned choir) and the other, TOC - The Open Choir (which is a non-auditioned choir) and is also an improvisation choir.

Yes it's all improvised! Under the skilled direction of improvising signalling conductor Jenni Roditi MMus. So you get different roles within the music - but it's your own musical content.. !

This meetup group is dedicated to 'TOC' The Open Choir.

This is a new adventure - a choir that is working towards performing in public based on directed improvisations. It is suggested that you have a reasonable level of experience in singing to take on this project.

Sounds daunting? No scores? No songs to learn by ear? The point of this choir is to create vocal music in the moment, following directed conducting or simple musical instructions.

We welcome voices from every style of singing and see the meeting of diverse voices as a powerful act of creativity.

Join us here, on meetup now! .... and book in for a taster - sign up for the rehearsals.

If you've ever wanted to get your vocal improvisation chops going this choir is for you.

The choir will meet on Monday evenings in Jenni's live work space in Crouch End. 7.15 - 9.45pm

Pay in advance for all 8 rehearsals or do a drop in payment
