The #OverWeb Meetup in #Gent #IOT #Solid #NGI #WebWeWant

Details

The #OverWeb is a Trust Layer on top of the existing web. It attaches ideas, interactions, and experiences with web objects in the page source. Browser overlay apps like Hypothesis, Omnity, dokieli, and Bridgit are the first wave of the #OverWeb.

In the Next Generation Internet, the page source will be the Contextual Footprint for a world of ideas, interactions, and experiences associated with any single page.

Imagine adding notes, having conversations, meeting collaborators around an idea on any web page. Then 10x it.

The #OverWeb is the Next Big Leap in Human Consciousness!

Together with Christian Nold he published Situated Technologies Pamphlets 8: The Internet of People for a Post-Oil World. Ruben Verborgh, Solid, Professor of Semantic Web technology
I’m a professor of Semantic Web technology at IDLab, Ghent University – imec, and a research affiliate at the Decentralized Information Group of CSAIL at MIT. I’m a technology advocate for Inrupt and the Solid ecosystem of apps that let you keep your own data. I love to discuss about the Web, decentralization, hypermedia clients, Web APIs, Linked Data, and much more. My belief is that if we want to see intelligent clients, we should stop trying to build intelligent servers. We need to focus on designing a new generation of Web applications that emphasize serendipitous reuse of data and functionality through decentralization.

Sam Butler, Project Director of CrowdFact
CrowdFact 2020 pilots the use of web page overlays for revealing fact checking and contextual information underlying the news so that web users can identify what’s real by themselves. We are developing a human-AI trained False News Detection tool and Truthiness Score that aggregates all the publicly available information about the facts. Our goal is to reduce the average response time to false news from 13 hours to minutes utilizing Frontier technologies including distributed ledger technology, machine learning, and extended reality.
