Halloween night, Full Moon, Eagle Rock from Trippet Ranch

Details

Masks are mandatory as we gather at the trailhead! They will also be mandatory anytime we are gathered and cannot keep an appropriate social distance between people.

With its unique craggy surface and panoramic views, Eagle Rock, at 1,957 ft, is one of the most exciting hiking destinations in Topanga State Park. We will be hiking up the Musch Trail from the Trippet Ranch Parking Lot. This narrow trail is off limits to bikers as it cuts through sagebrush terrain. We will return on the Eagle Springs Fire Road.

Bring your dinner and plan to eat on the rather large rock while (hopefully) watching sunset and a full moon rise. We can toast the evening with whatever is in your cup. Also, bring some individually wrapped Halloween treats to share. Extra points if you come in a costume.

Distance: 4.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 800 ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Dogs: No! Not allowed in Topanga State Park
Restrooms: Nature
Water Fountain: No
Parking: There is some free parking on the street below and above the entrance to the park. The Trippet Ranch parking lot closes at sunset, so you cannot get in after sunset, but you can get out. Parking is somewhere around 8-$12.
Trail: single track up and fire road down
Sunset: 6 PM
Moon: Full with moonrise close to 6:30

Directions: From the Ventura Freeway (101), exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, drive south over the crest of the mountains and proceed three miles to Entrada Road and turn left. It is easy to miss this left turn!

From Pacific Coast Highway, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pass the post office at the center of "town," then turn right on Entrada Road.Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park's main parking lot (about one mile).

Bring:
Flashlight/headlamp, charged and ready to go!
Dinner and individually wrapped Halloween candy to share
Whatever you personally want to drink is fine to bring.
Whatever will keep you warm enough after sunset. I expect it will be windy and chilly.
