The program begins at 1:30 pm with “From Sidekicks to Superheroes,” a prescreening lecture by Dr. Sonny Kelly. The film starts at 2 pm and is followed by a 30-minute informal talkback with Dr. Kelly and youth in the audience.
This screening event is presented in conjunction with special exhibition Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design, which displays more than 60 of Academy Award–winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter’s original garments from films such as Black Panther, Malcolm X, Do The Right Thing, and Coming 2 America.
