San Francisco Folk Music Club

St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church

We will continue to meet, as we have done for the better part of a century, but I am discontinuing the use of Meetup. If you would like to get an email announcement of meetings, email me at [masked] New: We will actually start at 7:00 and see if this becomes a regular thing. SFFMC has many events. Check out our website/newsletter at sffmc.org. Coming up: SFFMC's El Cerrito Free Folk Festival on Oct. 10. There are many activities. See sffmc.org or communicate with Ed through Meetup Messages, but wait until the event gets closer. This, however, is an announcement of our regular musical meeting at Cyprian's ARC (St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church) on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month. We are now doing this on Zoom (see details below). Our next events are September 25th and October 9th. All levels of musical experience including beginners are welcome. This is a musical community that has continued since 1948, so it isn't going away. There is a problem that all people attempting to have song swaps deal with on line. Zoom, and as far as we can tell, other providers, allow for conversation nicely, but there is a slight delay between when a person speaks and when the listener hears. This works well enough for conversation, but creates a problem for playing music together. That split second delay garbles things. The solution is to mute everybody except the person leading the song. The listeners are then free to play along, but nobody can hear them. This is less satisfying, as you might well imagine. It is what we have in this time of contagion. I will post each URL for the 2nd and 4th Friday song swap Zoom event below when they are getting close. You will see the words, "Join Zoom Meeting". The URL or link, is on the next line. Return to this message on Sept. 25 at 8:00 (or 7:00 to join those starting early) - 12:00 and click on the blue URL, or just copy (if it is still in black, you will have to copy) and paste to enter the URL in your search engine. Then follow instructions. There will be a simple password which is "sing", but no waiting room. You will need to have a camera pointed at yourself from a laptop computer, video camera attached to a computer or smart phone you are using in order to participate. Sign in and follow the instructions to join us. You will see yourself, me and others each in our own small video. When it is your turn, say what key your song is in. If it is in the songbooks Rise Up Singing or Rise Again, tell the page number. Then, if you wish to say a few words about the song, do so, but please don't speak for long since others are waiting for their turn. The theme of the songs for Sept. 25 is Air, Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Any song on any topic is fine though. Edward Hilton is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
