Enlightenment is really difficult isn’t it? Well, perhaps. Getting started on leading a more   enlightened life is easy though and you can get started straight away.

Do you ever wonder if there is more to life than what we experience everyday? Have you looked into traditional church and religion but found that it wasn’t consistent with your observation and experience of the world. Maybe you’ve been to some new age type of spirituality but found it to be just mumbo jumbo. Or perhaps you’ve been to a spirituality course or retreat and had a good experience but haven’t been able to maintain that feeling through into your everyday life. And are there any spiritual paths and philosophies out there that are consistent with our discoveries in modern science and our experience with the world and the way things are.

If we look to the east we will find what we’re looking for. For example Hinduism has a one goal - many paths approach. It is so broad that it can accomodate a range of philosophies that can be theistic, polytheistic or non-theistic. It is so broad that it encompasses all other religions, and modern yogi’s and gurus sometimes refer to modern science as a way to help convey their message. Buddhism has a logical approach with understandings that make sense to the seeker as they travel along it’s path. The Dalai Lama has described Buddhism as the ‘science of the mind’. Taoism is an observation of the way things are and explores the duality of existence. Eckhart Tolle has a modern approach involving being in the present moment and all these are consistent with our experience of the world.

So, if we look to the East we can see there is a vast fountain of knowledge and understanding about the way things are and many paths to enlightenment and realising the self. But with so many paths where do you start?, and some of it is really hard to understand. How can we choose which is this the best way for ourselves?

Come listen, learn, and discuss with someone that can draw on many years of research and exploration into the nature of things, from science to spirituality to enlightenment. Deepen and broaden your understanding of spiritual paths and philosophies so you can make informed decisions about where you want to go in your spiritual life whether you choose to follow a well worn path or create your own.

On the reverse side is a menu of topics for you to pick and choose from. On the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month we will cover one or more topics and see where the conversation takes us. We will meet for a couple of hours in a Yurt nestled in a lovely country setting from:

1.30pm - 3.30pm: Oct 15. Nov 5, 19…

A Place to Be, 81 Rotowhenua Road.

Each session will consist of 1/2 hour to an hour of teaching followed by a cup of tea and a chat. These sessions are topic based and are designed so they are exploratory in nature with no expectation for you to believe in this thing or that thing or any  expectation for anyone to make this or that change in their life. Developing understanding and changing your thinking can be all it takes to live a more enlightened life.

What is Enlightenment?

Let’s explore what enlightenment is and where can head to achieve it, to see if it is actually something we  want to pursue.

Turn your Hot Air Balloons into Shooting Stars

Learn about the nature of stress, what it’s root cause is, and how can we reduce and remove it from our lives?

Desire and Attachment - When looking into Self Realisation and Enlightenment we hear much about the problem with desire and attachment. What effect does desiring things and being attached to things have on our state of happiness?

Yoga is Not an Exercise - It is said that yoga simply means union. Some say yoga is always being in a state of having everything you need. Some say yoga is about the mind and has exercises, all of which are various ways of achieving enlightenment,

Before Everything - What happened before the Big Bang, before creation, before God? Before everything? We cannot know but it doesn't need to stop us exploring and looking at what ancient texts say about the topic.

Consciousness - What is consciousness, where does it come from and what does consciousness have to do with spirituality?

Peace, Love and Happiness - Enlightenment promises a life of enduring, peace love and happiness, how do we make it last instead of something that comes and goes?

Time - From nanoseconds to eternity, A journey through the history of the universeBrahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Brahman

Financial independence - If you don’t want anything, you can have anything you want. Learn how to become financially independent simply by changing your thinking. You can attain financial independence with a lot less money than you may think.

Meditation - Want to learn how to meditate or learn some new and different ways.

Tao Te Ching - Lets explore a modern day version of this ancient text and discover the nature of things.

Bhagavad Gita - Lets explore a modern day version of this ancient text and discover the nature of things.

Eckhart Tolle - Many people have read some of his books. What is the essence of his teachings? What does he mean by ego and awareness?

Levels of consciousness - Derived from the 3 Gunas from the Bhagavad Gita. A way of improving your life simply by changing your thinking

The 3 Gunas - Tamas, Raja and Sattva - If you explore the Bhagavad Gita you will discover 3 qualities that run through all levels of existence. Tamas is inactivity or darkness, Rajas is desire and doing, Sattva is beingness and harmony. We want to  master the 3 gunas by rbecoming Sattva.

Everything - Your topic not listed here? Please let me know what aspect of spirituality you would like to learn or perhaps you have something to teach.
