Tales of Two Cities - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Singapore Writers' Group is collaborating with the Hong Kong Writers' Circle to publish an anthology exploring the landscape and peoples of both of our cities. It is an open brief, with the hope being that submissions from one city will both contrast with and complement those from the other.

Do the cities we call home define us, or us them? How do the landscapes reflect the sense of individual or collective consciousness? How do the threads of history and personal narrative persist in two rapidly changing and globalised cities?

Writers are asked to submit their story ideas to (Alice Clark-Platts at [address removed] or Mickey Lin at [address removed]) by December[masked].

Stories can be on any subject, but unlike ROJAK, they must be set in Singapore and must have significant ties to Singapore. Touristy travel memoirs will NOT be considered.

It is not necessary to reference Hong Kong directly, although it might be worth considering how your story might fit within the context of the anthology as a whole.

Once your story is approved, we will need first drafts by February 28, 2015. As this is a joint anthology, 12 stories from both SWG and HKWC will be included (24 stories total). As SWG and HKWC might possibly self-publish this anthology, please be prepare to contribute money (most likely less than $200 SGD) to ensure publication should that be necessary.

Please note that a first draft request is not a guarantee of publication, and all decisions will ultimately be the editors' - up until final publication.

If you have any questions, please contact Alice or Mickey.

Thanks and happy writing!
