What we're about

Our Object

The establishment of a system of society based upon the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth by and in the interest of the whole community.

Who We Are

The Socialist Party of Great Britain is like no other political party in Britain. It is made up of people who have joined together because we want to get rid of the profit system and establish real socialism.

Our aim is to persuade others to become socialist and act for themselves, organizing democratically and without leaders, to bring about the kind of society that we advocate.

We are solely concerned with building a movement of socialists for socialism. We are not a reformist party with a programme of policies to patch up capitalism, a policy which has failed time and time again.

What We Do

Our aim is to build a movement working towards a socialist society. We publish literature, we hold meetings and debates throughout the country, we write to the press and state our case wherever possible on the media. We run weekend educational conferences, we produce films and pamphlets, we hand out leaflets, we contest elections, and we discuss our ideas with people at every opportunity.

Here you will find details of our meetings, debates, schools, conferences and other activities that involve people who want to work for a solution to capitalism's inevitable problems meeting up in many different ways.

We are a completely open and leaderless organisation. All our meetings are open to everyone without exception. So please feel free to pop along to any of our events. We are happy to discuss socialism and freely exchange ideas at any time. Also, there is no entry fee for any of our meetings. Even our Summer School talks are free except for overnight accommodation and meals.

We hope you will find something near you that you will find interesting and be able to attend.

Anyone who agrees with the principles and object ( of The Socialist Party of Great Britain can apply for membership. The reason we ask new applicants to complete a questionnaire is in order to satisfy themselves and The SPGB that they are in agreement with our ideas. Only in this way does membership serve a useful purpose both for applicants and for the Party: (
