Do you like Stephen King? Have you never read him but want to start? Come on in! We dig in to his novels, short stories, and even movies based on his writing. Among (many) other things, we look at his characterizations of women, Black people, other people of color, children, white men (SO many white men).
2nd Friday of the month - novel discussion (we pick the novel together)
3rd Saturday of the month - movie discussion (of a novel we've read)
4th Friday of the month - short story discussion (Regina picks, so there)
King called Mr. Mercedes (2014) his first hard-boiled detective novel. It's a crime story about a retired policeman being taunted by a murderer and was inspired by the true event of a woman driving her car into a McDonald's restaurant. Um, okay.
With this book we'll pull ourselves into this century and see some of what King has been up to in the last ten years. (It's 436 pages long so we can read it one month. Thanks for the nudge towards this book, Amy.)
We're working our way through the Skeleton Crew collection and this month we'll read "Word Processor of the Gods." An unhappy and aspiring writer receives a very unusual birthday gift. (Thanks for the suggestion, Georgette.)
