What we're about

The Thinkery cultivates thinking and thoughtfulness in the world today. Life is better when we switch off the brain's autopilot and are more thoughtful about ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

The Thinkery is about thoughtfully seeking the truth. Inquisitive minds, kind people, and all points of view are welcome. We practice classical tolerance — elitism toward ideas and egalitarianism toward persons. We expect disagreement. We insist on respect. We are dedicated to providing a safe environment for exchanging views. You will be challenged and stretched. You will be respected and valued. You will be heard. We care about what you think, but most of all we care about you. If this is a culture that fits you, we invite you to join us.

You're encouraged to check out our website (https://thethinkery.me) and join The Thinkery Clubhouse (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thethinkeryclubhouse), our online community.

Idea Lab • Abortion: A Thoughtful Approach

Latte Da Coffee House and Wine Bar

What's on your sign? What are your views on abortion, and why? What has shaped those views, and could anything change them? Does your faith bind you to a certain view? Are 'pro-life' and 'pro-choice' helpful labels? Why is society so divided on this issue? Join us to discuss these and related questions in a respectful atmosphere. This is not about promoting a particular view. It's about getting clarity about your view by thinking through it and hearing the perspectives of others. Inquisitive minds, kind people, and all points of view are welcome. We practice classical tolerance — elitism toward ideas and egalitarianism toward persons. Look for The Thinkery sign at the table. See you there!

God Questions

Savona Coffee

Do you have questions about God and spiritual matters? Join us for this informal gathering! No question is too big or too small; we'll tackle it. I've read and studied the Bible for over thirty years, and I've taught the Bible for about twenty years. As the founder of The Thinkery — and with a background as both a vocational minister and an intelligence analyst — my niche is combining facts, reason, and experience to build a meaningful, thoughtful faith. My approach is whole-Bible teaching. In order to fully understand what the Bible teaches about a particular matter, we must look at everything the Bible says about that matter, not just one or two passages. We also must see everything in the context of the whole story. I don't have all the answers, but I will do my best to provide understanding for the questions on your mind and heart. Most of all, The Thinkery is about thoughtfully seeking the truth. Inquisitive minds, kind people, and all points of view are welcome. Look for The Thinkery sign at the table. See you there!

God Quest • Hurt by Religion?

Savona Coffee

There are too many stories of people hurt within religious communities. Maybe one of the stories is yours. Perhaps you're in a community where you want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Join us to talk about pain and healing, forgiveness and reconciliation, and causes and solutions. Inquisitive minds, kind people, and all points of view are welcome. We practice classical tolerance — elitism toward ideas and egalitarianism toward persons. Above all, The Thinkery is about thoughtfully seeking the truth. Look for The Thinkery sign at the table. We hope to see you there!

Trivia Tuesday

The Heavy Metal Pizza & Brewing Co

Do you think trivial things are important? Do you know a bunch of stuff and have no idea how you know it? Do you have an alarm set for the time Jeopardy comes on? If you answered 'Yes' to any of these questions, we need you on our team. Let's gather at The Heavy Metal Pizza & Brewing Co. for their Trivia Tuesday event. The games begin at 7:00, so please arrive by 6:45 to find us, order something to eat and/or drink, and help us plan our team's strategy for domination (or at least fun). The winning team gets a $10 gift card for each player! Look for The Thinkery sign at the table. Note: Please be sure to change your RSVP to NO if you can't make it so you can free up a spot for someone else. Thanks!
