Welcome to The Work of Byron Katie in Kirkland! Join us for an evening of inquiry. The Work of Byron Katie is a way of identifying and questioning the thoughts that can trigger anger, fear, depression, addiction, isolation, and violence in each of us. For the uninitiated, think of The Work as an ‘Inquiry-Based Stress Reduction’ system, tailored to your specific thoughts and situations. The Work itself is quite simple. It consists of four Questions and ‘Turnarounds’. When considering any thought, we ask: 1. Is it true? 2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true? 3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought? 4. Who would you be without the thought? Our session will start with a quote from one of Byron Katie’s books and a few moments of meditation. From there we will share some of our stressful thoughts and proceed with group inquiry. One-on-one facilitation will also be available for those interested. Following our inquiries we’ll have a Q&A session where we can reflect on the evening’s inquiries as well as about The Work itself. I look forward to answering your questions about how to do The Work, fill out Judge-Your-Neighbor worksheets, etc. A number of Work related resources are available for free at www.thework.com. On YouTube you will find many videos featuring Byron Katie doing The Work on a wide variety of issues. If you are not familiar with The Work and would like to learn more, YouTube might be a good place to start. As a matter of fact, that’s where I first learned about The Work. What do you need to bring to our meeting? Nothing but an open mind! Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to The Work or already familiar. If you'd like to attend simply just RSVP.
