What we're about

The Actors Place (TAP) is a gym for actors. We are not a typical acting class, but rather a group of engaging actors (who are either working professionals, or simply passionate individuals with acting training), who meet regularly, with the aim of bettering our craft.

Who Is TAP For?

Although TAP is both welcoming and extremely inclusive (even encouraging groundbreaking scene studies, when it comes to minorities; gender and LGTBQ+), to join TAP one must already have a foundation in acting. This, in turn, guarantees that all members are committed to the group and to the acting art form.

If you aren’t sure where to begin your acting journey (before being eligible to join TAP), feel free to message us. We'd be happy to give some recommendations.

To join TAP one must:

• Be currently enrolled in acting classes.

• Have taken some acting classes in the recent past.

• Are already auditioning/working as an actor.

• Are a professional actor looking to practice your craft.

How Much Does It Cost?

We have three available options:

• Single Class Drop-in $20

• 5 Class Drop-in Card $50

• 10 Class Drop-in Card $100

What to Expect

Every TAP session is a mixture of both familiar and new elements. That’s because we love to challenge ourselves, by doing different exercises every session.

Generally our sessions begin with improvisation games, followed by lots of scene study and partner work, and plenty of opportunities to gain constructive feedback (both from fellow participants, as well as the workshop facilitator).

Sometimes, we work on things like audition techniques or voice work, at other times, we practice on-camera acting, which means you’re always learning something new!

What to Prepare

Although it is not mandatory to memorize the script, we feel it's better to come prepared. Not only does it make things more efficient, but it allows you to focus on both your scene partner, and the acting art form!

Feel free to bring your own material to work on. Or to explore the script database featured on our website ( http://theactorsplace.org/scripts )

Who is the Teacher?

Usually, our TAP sessions are led by Ivan Wanis Ruiz, who not only is a respected professor of public speaking at the prestigious University of Toronto, and published author, but is also a working film and television actor (guest starring in popular series Supernatural; Designated Survivor and Orphan Black).

Sometimes, we also invite guest facilitators with years of experience in a specific area, for example in voice over acting. But the unique thing about our workshops are that our instructors facilitate and not teach (placing an emphasis on practice).
