About John Benario:

John Benario became interested in wine in 1994 and very quickly gravitated toward Italian wines due to the variety (over 2000 specific grape types) and quality of the Italian producers. John started traveling to Italy to further his knowledge by seeing the vineyards and learning from the producers, with each trip increasing his desire to learn more.  Now, 17 trips to Italy later, John is definitely a specialist on Italian wines.    John is oriented toward old world styles and has a somewhat eclectic palate.  In addition to Italian wines, John has studied and traveled extensively in the Rhone, Loire, Alsace, and Champagne regions in France, the Douro and other northern regions in Portugal, the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, and Mendoza in Argentina.    John's day job as a pilot has allowed him the opportunities to travel and develop his knowledge of wines and his formal education as a engineer gives him the ability to absorb the details of so many disparate wines.   John's passion is helping other other people become more knowledgable about wine to increase their enjoyment of one of life's great pleasures.
