New Year Moonlight Snowshoe

Want to do something a little bit crazy for New Year. There will be a full moon on Dec 31st. We plan to hike to one of the shelters (by moonlight). Enjoy the fire and the company. See in the New Year then hike back to the cars. We will meet at Starbucks on Century at 9pm, start hiking around 10pm and aim to be back at the car by around 1:30am. PLEASE NOTE: Wandering around the forest at midnight in midwinter carries a certain amount of risk. This is only for experienced hikers. You should be prepared for extreme cold. You need a headlamp with a new battery. A flask of tea, coffee or soup is a good idea. Too much alcohol is definitely NOT a good idea. Drivers need a snow pass and traction tires. Leader is Rich Bumbliss.

oopsie- confusion as to which Starbucks to meet at left 4 of us going on an unplanned adventure that turned out to be a lot of fun, but if the other group would have glanced as they were leaving they would have seen us standing outside waiting ;) I was very excited to snowshoe for the first time and a bit disappointeed.

My first time at Edison. Cloud cover provided diffuse moonlight. the shelter came stocked with fun people to ring in the new year with. :-) Excellent!

after the wild weather day the weather was perfect for the hike. no wind, snowing steady. no moon but the back light from the ski was great. fire roaring when we got to shelter.
