The Cryptograph Meetup @Strathclyde With Speaker Dug Campbell From MaidSafe. This week we are conducting something a bit different.
The Internet is Broken: Welcome to the SAFE Network
Dug Campbell is Head of Marketing and Outreach at MaidSafe, based in Scotland. MaidSafe is an open source technology company, formed in 2006, that is building the SAFE Network, the world's first autonomous data and communications network - a new, decentralised internet for everyone in which the control of data shifts from large corporates back to individuals, whilst also providing privacy, security and freedom by default to its users.
Dug first fell down the Bitcoin rabbit hole in 2012, going on to found the Scottish Bitcoin Meetup (now renamed the Scottish Blockchain Meetup) and the Scottish Bitcoin Conference in 2014, before organising the first Ethereum meetups and hackathons in Scotland. He started his career as a lawyer, spending over a decade advising technology startups and their investors, before working as an independent digital strategy consultant following an MBA with companies such as Skyscanner amongst others. After first joining the MaidSafe community in 2014, he now spends his time spreading the word about the SAFE Network. You can reach him directly on Twitter at @dugcampbell or join in the conversation at safenetforum.org or @maidsafe.
Abstract: "Every day that passes sees a new headline - a security breach, a breach of trust, passwords hacked, personal data leaked. Data is now being generated in ever increasing quantities, and together we face a critical problem. Madness is defined as doing the same things that you've always done but expecting different results. It's time for a new solution. An internet that every individual, no matter their location or status, can access, free of charge. A decentralised and autonomous internet, powered by individuals, rewarded in cryptocurrency, in which privacy, security and freedom are guaranteed. Welcome to the SAFE Network."
