What we're about

Want to inspire yourself to write even more?

Want to work past writing blocks?

Want to get outside your writing comfort zone?

When asked how an artist may best connect with her muse, Alice Walker said:

“Earth was meant for Joy. As an artist, connect with that Joy and you will forever be fed by it.”

~Alice Walker, Q&A/ ‘Beauty In Truth’ world premier at ‘Women Of the World’ Festival 2013, http://youtu.be/UadveROnHHk

The Natural Muse Meetup is an opportunity for writers to connect with Earth's Joy and work with the muse of Nature in the company of other writers on a regular basis. We will meet in a variety of natural locations around Los Angeles in order to engage with the Natural Muse. The atmosphere is collaborative, supportive and creative. This is, above all, an opportunity to engage with the page, and to write, write, write. It is not a forum for editing, critiquing or offering unsolicited advice, but a safe and nurturing place to converse with your Natural Muse.

"There is simply no place else like Arlington Garden in Pasadena, or elsewhere in the San Gabriel Valley. Its Italian style olive allee, numerous succulent and cactus gardens, an Arroyo Seco like pathway flanked by sycamores leading to a vernal pool, orange grove laid out in grids like historical California orange groves, paths and benches set throughout plant communities, and its “surprises around every corner,” make Arlington Garden an indescribable Pasadena landmark which has to be visited if it is to be appreciated."

Writing at Catalina Verdugo Adobe

Catalina Verdugo Adobe

This shady hideaway always offers a respite, even on the hottest days.

The Catalina Verdugo Adobe is named for the daughter of the famed Jose Maria Verdugo and is where the terms of the Treaty of Cahuenga were negotiated under the Oak of Peace. Although that tree died of natural causes decades ago, its offshoots live on, in living testament of the momentous day in history.

Abundant mature oaks provide ample shade. The restroom facilities are clean, and there's plenty of free street parking. There are benches and picnic tables located around the park, including some perched on the hillside overlooking the grounds of the adobe. Come let your muse play in this quiet spot of nature nestled in the heart of Glendale.

As with all of our many meetups, check in with the Meetup page for this event before heading out, in case of any last-minute changes.
