Let's Discuss... Motivation, Purpose and Drive (Revisited) Date & Location TBC

The Examined Life, "Let's Discuss..." session is an open discussion held usually every other month. The topic for this meetup is "Motivation, Purpose and Drive" This is a Revisited meetup, which means I will be strict about the discussion staying on topic (as last time we went off topic too much and didn't cover much ground). *** The format of the meetup will be: 2pm - Free flow group discussion. 3pm - Break. 3.15pm - Going around the group with optional individual uninterrupted input (about 5 minutes each). 4pm - Break. 4.15pm - Final free flow group discussion. 5pm - End of official meetup and if room is still available attendees can stay and continue discussing if they wish. *** If you haven't read the The Examined Life rules (or need a refresher), which can be found here, please do so before the meetup: https://www.meetup.com/The_Examined_Life/messages/boards/ The Pub: The Hoop & Grapes has a comfortable function room on the first floor and second floor for private discussions and events. The bar is on the ground floor. It will be drinks only for this day, the kitchen will not be open. NB. Please RSVP if you can commit to attending and change your RSVP if something comes up. Inaccurate RSVPs can make it difficult to plan for room sizes and bookings.

Let's Socialise... Philosophers' Community Project (Date & Location TBC)

This meetup series is about creating a philosophical community (especially as a result of regular attendees) and therefore will likely add richness to philosophical interaction here and at other meetups (where overlap occurs). Whilst philosophical dialectics are definitely encouraged, I believe sharing our backgrounds/story/personal life with each other can promote a stronger sense of social connections than pure philosophical exchanges. * Important: this group encourages open and honest conversations, however, personal information and views that identify a person are to stay within the group (Chatham House rules), unless with explicit consent from the relevant attendee(s). Furthermore, anti-social/disruptive behaviour that weakens the community group is not welcome (e.g. bullying) * It is important to note that I don’t plan for this group to be a guaranteed intellectual safe space. I have the view that free speech is essential in order to help people navigate their way in life (I value intellectual freedom). Having said that, I do hope for the group/community to be a friendly space. Everything in this meetup series is voluntary, it is up to individuals how much they wish to interact/engage in the community. Ice breaker topics: What makes a good philosophical community? What three words would you use to describe yourself? What do you think is one of the most important life lessons to have learnt? Summary: social meetup for philosophers (lovers of wisdom), Chatham House rules, voluntary, free speech, getting to know each other (especially regulars), no strict philosophical topic (open/casual), community. The format of the meetup is casual/relaxed. We can talk as one big group (depending on numbers) if we want or multiple smaller table based groups; it's up to attendees. Thanks for reading and hopefully see you soon. The Pub: https://www.madhatterhotel.co.uk/drink https://www.madhatterhotel.co.uk/food
