Why are we studying two books?
Interior Castle written by St. Teresa of Avila, a Carmelite nun, is a small book written in 1577 and considered a masterpiece of spiritual literature about the development of the soul. Caroline Myss, bestselling author and lecturer, herself had a life changing mystical experience while reading St. Teresa’s book which inspired her to write Entering the Castle.
Caroline’s book explains and elaborates on St. Teresa’s seven interior mansions which Caroline says saved her life, showed her her soul, awakened her heart and set her on the never-ending…timelessly fulfilled road of [spiritual] practice.

Ken Wilber wrote the foreword in which he says of Caroline Myss’ book, “It is a calling to all of us to be mystics without monasteries in a world sorely in need of a touch of the divine…the true self in each and every one of us.”

St. Teresa of Avila’s story is an amazing one. She was no shy retiring nun but an activist trying to reform her convent. But in her book Interior Castle she says that upon entering the castle through prayer and meditation the human spirit experiences humility, detachment, suffering and ultimately, self-knowledge, as it roams from room to room. As the Soul progresses further toward the center of the castle, it comes closer to achieving ineffable and perfect peace, and finally, a divine communion with God.

“Waking From Sleep: Why Awakening Experiences Occur
and How to Make Them Permanent” A book by Steve Taylor

It meets today, February 17, 2023, 2:00-3:30 pm, on chapter 9
In this astounding book, author Steve Taylor suggests that our normal consciousness is really a kind of “sleep” from which we sometimes “wake up” into a more intense and complete reality. He provides what is perhaps the first-ever clear explanation of higher states of consciousness, or “awakening experiences.”

Taylor explains that our normal consciousness is narrow and restricted and gives us a false and limited experience of reality. In awaking experiences, there is a sense that our consciousness has become wider and clearer and that we have gained access to a deeper and truer level of reality which is normally hidden from us. He explains why these experiences occur. Once we understand why they occur we will be better able to consciously generate them and make them permanent.
By fully explaining awakening experiences, the author makes them much more accessible, which may lead to a revolution in our psychological development as human beings.

About Steve Taylor: Author of The Fall and Making Time he is a teacher of spirituality and psychology and a researcher in transpersonal psychology at Liverpool John Moores University.

Feng Shui & The Chinese New Year--Carol Cannon, Certified Feng Shui Practitioner

Carol Cannon will look at the Year of the Rabbit and how its Annual Flying Stars impact the Feng Shui in your home. With so many people working from home, it is a time to be sure to take advantage of proper Feng Shui adjustments that can have positive impacts for you. Carol will explain some history of this ancient art, and provide clarity to discern the different schools of thought and why the new year is important. Her goal is for everyone to leave with at least one change to make in their own environment.

About Carol:
Introduced to Yoga and Meditation at age 18, Carol saw early on that life can be lived in a harmonious way. She had an early career as a VP at Chase Manhattan Bank, with responsibilities included appraising proposed and existing properties, analysis for loan work-outs, and managing the Boca Raton, FL office which covered nine southeastern states and a portfolio of over $2 billion. She was known for her “odd” interests in Yoga, Meditation, Organic and/or Vegetarian lifestyle and concern for humanity. Secretly, many of her coworkers would come to her to discuss their thoughts outside of corporate life.

In 1993, when Chase decided to close all regional offices, Carol took the opportunity to return to school for architecture and interior design. During that year, she discovered Feng Shui, the Chinese art of placement, and began her studies in the Black Sect Bon Tibetan School of thought. Carol continued studies in the Classical School of Feng Shui, and today is a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner through the New York School of Feng Shui. Carol is also the founder of the Florida School of Feng Shui which encompassed a 9-month training period.

At the same time she began Feng Shui, Carol discovered Bau-Biologie™, the study of the impact of a building's environment upon the health of people who live and work within it. Carol graduated from the International Institute for Bau-Biologie™ and Ecology, Inc., in 1995 as a Certified Building (Bau) Biology Environmental Consultant. Carol consults with those who are looking for acceptable new residential or commercial buildings, to ensure that they choose a healthy and harmonious design.

Carol is a 30-year member of the Theosophical Society and a resident of Dunedin, FL. She speaks to groups of any size, teaches classes, and conducts weekend workshops. She is a noted expert in her field and has been interviewed on local, national and international television and radio. She has also been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines. Carol believes “There is a need to blend Feng Shui & Healthy Building practices, to create healthier, peaceful, joy filled living and working environments for all.”
