Welcome to a night of Fuck Ups, free whiskey & teas and awesome conversation. This is Fuck Up Night.

To tackle the rate of suicide amongst men in Australia, bold new approaches to suicide prevention are required. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men aged 14 to 44, and 80% of all suicides in Australia are men.

We live in a competitive society where weaknesses, mistakes or “fuck ups” are covered up, glossed over or ignored, rather than enjoyed for the glorious learning opportunity that they should be.

“Fuck Up Night” is a a new & ongoing, nationally coordinated series of informal events taking place in bars and cafes across Australia to celebrate and own the fuck ups we make in life!

What on earth is a Fuck Up Night?

On a set date at a set time, people gather in a range of venues (mainly bars and pubs) across the country to have a drink and a chat. Sounds like a normal night out, yeah? Well... Almost.

There are two rules:

It doesn’t matter how big or small the fuck up is. “Fuck Up Night” is an opportunity to celebrate and own the fuck ups we make in life. And to break the stigma around failure being a bad thing.

And hey, the better we get at talking about the little things the easier it is to share the bigger stuff, too.

We'll have some amazing guest speakers on the night who'll be sharing their stories.

Come along, have a drink, meet someone new, share your fuck up and learn about how and why we can smash the stigmas surrounding failure and mental health!

Thank you to our sponsors for the evening:

HUB Sydney (http://hubaustralia.com/spaces/sydney/) for the awesome venue

I Am Infusion (http://www.iaminfusion.com.au/) Tea for the wicked tea

Bulleit Whiskey (http://www.bulleit.com/) for the alcohol

GUEST SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

GRANT TREBILCO - Founder, ONEWAVE

Grant Trebilco likes to dress up in fluro outfits and go surfing to beat the funks of mental health. He was once diagnosed with perfectionism - well they royally fucked that diagnosis up. He was later told that he probably needed to lose everything to appreciate this thing called life. And he came pretty fucking close...

MICHAEL BURNS - Psychotherapist

http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/6/2/c/600_340929772.jpeg

In his early 20' s Michael felt he had to make a decision: open up and talk about his problems, or die. For many people the choice may not be so dramatic, and yet the truth we allow ourselves to acknowledge and express can make all the difference in the quality of life we live and the quality of our relationships. Michael has since studied psychotherapy and focused much of his reading and research on men. This has reinforced his belief in the importance of being more accepting of men across multiple masculinities.

Michael is excited to be involved with "Fuck Up Night" as he understands the importance of talking openly and sharing our experience. He is similarly excited about the "Spirit of Man" retreats (www.spiritofman.com.au (http://www.spiritofman.com.au/)) (http://www.spiritofman.com.au/) as this work also helps with acceptance of ourselves and other men. Through his group facilitation and work with Lifeline he continues to find new ways to support himself and others. Aside from working with groups Michael's passions are finding balance in life and surfing.

GAVIN HODGES - Spirit of Man

2011 saw a major turning point in Gavin's life. Much soul-searching and re-connection saw these changes reflect in his world. There were many personal and career changes that took place. Gavin grew through these experiences and learnt a lot about himself. His transition from the military to becoming a Ka Huna massage therapist allowed him to cross traditional manhood boundaries and connect more deeply to different aspects of self.

Gavin loves working with the healing energies of a one on one Ka Huna massage, he also wanted to be able to reach out and be able to touch more people on a larger scale. This is where his passion grew with "Spirit Of Man" as he understands the need for men to be able to connect and support each other. This is a men's retreat which runs out of the beautiful Kangaroo Valley. The next retreat is from August 1-3. For details see www.spiritofman.com.au (http://www.spiritofman.com.au/).

Further speaker details to be announced shortly!
