October book discussion - Life of David Hockney

Details

Please note change in date for this month's event.

This month we will be discussing "Life of David Hockney" by Catherine Cusset.

The book is described as a "compelling hybrid of novel and biography...offers an insightful overview of a painter whose art is as accessible as it is compelling, and whose passion to create has never been deterred by heartbreak or illness or loss." The book, based on published articles and interviews with Hockney, provides great insight into his motivation and methods and the setting and real life characters of specific paintings. These details are set against a dramatized biography of the artist, both gossipy and thoughtful.

This book was written by Catherine Cusset and translated by Teresa Fagan from the original French. Cusset is the author of thirteen novels and previously taught French literature at Yale.

Don't worry if you don't finish the book. Please come and share your thoughts about this area of art and the process art making and appreciation in general.

The fee for the meetup is $2 per person, which covers the meetup administration costs.
