Talk Description: Real Time Everything

Even with today’s technology, the vast majority of financial transactions are still fulfilled and settled through batch processes. Enterprise systems designed five, or twenty five, years ago are typically batch oriented when it comes to financial payments or settlements. Let’s take a look at what ThoughtWorks is doing to embrace Real Time Everything, and integrating existing systems with cloud native technology to retire the batch. Come join us for this case study on the application of Product Thinking in cloud adoption, where we’ll dive in to the design decisions related to integrating cloud native products with existing systems, different approaches to scaling out Kubernetes, determining the right time to introduce an API Gateway, and the role of API authorization in a microservices architecture.

Paula Paul entered the workforce as a software engineer at IBM in the early 80’s, where she shipped her first product on magnetic tape. She’s shipped many software products since then, evangelized .NET with Microsoft, held executive positions in technology architecture and operations, and taught people of all ages to code. Paula is passionate about equal opportunities for technical literacy, and enjoys (half) joking that Kubernetes reminds her of IBM/370 systems programming.

Paula is a Technology Principal with ThoughtWorks, where she helps organizations adopt cloud native technology, and serves the community as an ABI Syster, diversity speaker, and mentor.
