Timisoara Mobile Development Group and Tritium Consulting SRL are organizing with the support of the Multimedia Center (http://cm.upt.ro/) of Politehnica University of Timișoara the first Introduction to iOS open training in the region.

The training is authored and delivered by Paul Ardeleanu (http://skillsmatter.com/expert/os-mobile-server/parul-ardeleanu), a reputed Romanian-origin, London-based, iOS developer and software engineer with a passion for mobile utilities. Paul is regularly delivering iOS Development training events with one of the major specialized organizations in London. Paul is also regularly speaking at iPhone user group meetups at London's Apple store and is one of the early predictors of the end of computers as we knew them, with the touch interfaces going to rule the world. Paul is also organizer of or speaker to relevant iOS development conferences in UK and beyond.

The two-days training will take place in an event room ”Mac-equipped” by the Multimedia Center of Politehnica University of Timișoara. During the Introduction to iOS Development training, participants will learn how to write and deploy applications that run on the iOS devices. The training will approach most aspects of the Objective-C language, the Foundation & Cocoa Touch frameworks, and also some iPad specific topics.

By attending the training, participants will find out:

• how to capitalize their existing programming skills by switching to Objective C

• how to use frameworks and design patterns provided by the SDK

• how to build meaningful interfaces

The agenda of the training will include the following topics

Day 1 (09.00 - 17.00)

Introduction to development tools
review of C and Introduction to Objective C Memory management
Foundation & UIKit frameworks

Day 2 (09.00 - 17.00)

Interface design patterns & specialised View Controllers
Design patterns (MVC, Delegation, etc.)
Data persistence (Preferences, SQLite & Code Data)
Web Services
Location Services

Training Prerequisites

To get the most out of their participation to the iOS development training, those interested should have some programming knowledge and a basic understanding of object oriented programming. You will also need to be a registered iPhone developer. Participants are not requested to bring their own Intel-based Mac to this training, as Politehnica University of Timișoara offers a correspondingly equipped training environment. If participants wish to publish their apps to Apple Stores, they will also need to be registered Apple Developers (this paid registration process can be completed during the training course).

Training Methodology

The training methodology relies on presentations, discussions, practical exercises but mostly on hands-on programming sessions. The overall goal of the training is to have participants building and submitting for approval a simple own idea of an iOS app.
