What we're about
Meet other people interested in Zen Meditation. Zen is not a path of devotion, nor opposed to any faith--just sitting in silence with others and watching the breath. Our initial goal is to learn to live in the moment by experiencing a deepening of our concentration over time. Any person who would like to experience the beauty, peace and connectedness of just sitting in silence with other people is encouraged to come and sit with us. After you come for the first time, there is no need to RSVP to Meetup. Once you know where we are, all you have to do is show up.
The extent of commitment is personal to each individual. The first time you attend a sit, you are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early if that's possible. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and leave your shoes outside of the entrance door to the zendo
Most Cold Mountain Sangha sits are based in Rutgers University on the Livingston campus in Piscataway in Lucy Stone Hall, Rm B-103, on Mondays and Fridays (beginner nights), Wednesdays (Advanced) and every other Saturday morning. Please go to coldmountainzen.org for the most current schedule of sits and locations and directions. There will be no sit in any location during sesshin (meditation retreat) week beginning Tuesday, August 23. Sits will resume on the regular schedule on Monday, August 29.
We have a wonderful teacher who has been practicing Zen for about 40 years and if you would like to learn more about him and our sangha, please visit coldmountainzen.org. You are welcome to attend any sit at any of our locations.
For questions concerning any of our sits at any location you may call 908-403-1851 between 6:15 and 7 pm on any sit evening. It's not necessary to rsvp. Just check the schedule on the website and arrive. If for some reason a sit is cancelled, you will receive an email.
